This is from my experience. I bought my truck with 68,000 on it. Hope this helps. One of the first things I did on mine was to check the fuel pressure on the lift pump ( are junk ) I personally would recommend getting an aftermarket pump if yours is bad, if $ is an issue ( always is with me ) napa has good warranty on theres ( replaced mine 3 times under warranty ) I would highly recommend a set of gauges to keep track of things. IE: fuel pressure. I went thru the whole front end and ended up replacing the following: wheel bearings ( new hubs ) upper and lower ball joints, steering gear box ( worn out from bad design by DC ), track bar end (aftermarket ) and just for me I added 2 inch lift spacers to level out the truck. also at that time I added boost guage and egt guage and pilliar mount , edge ez and a BHAF. Personally I have found this site to be a Life saver. There is a wealth of knowledge on here and everyone in here is very helpfull. If you are like me you can spend weeks even months reading in here to learn valuable knowledge about your truck.

PS whatch out for the BOMBING bug if you get it very very hard to get rid of. ( although you may never want to ) good luck with your new truck and welcome to the site.

Fuel pressure gauge and EGT too. Don't let the fuel pressure get below 7-8.
CaTCHer ECM and 275 injectors, for power upgrade. You can substitute the Mach 1, 1.6 injectors for a cleaner set-up.
Now, go change all the fluids and filters.
When the trans needs attention, get a tighter torque converter, you will love the truck. It will get better mileage and have twice the usable power!!!!

Welcome to the site Muddslinger, as everyone else said, get gauges. I have a Boost Pyro and a Fuel Pressure mounted on the pillar in the cab. My fuel pressure is mechanical so i do have fuel running to the cab, some say not to do this so say it s alright to do it. I just made sure everything was nice and tight so i don't have leaks. I bought all my gauges at an autoparts store near me that specializes in aftermarket items. Mine are all Autometer gauges. I hooked up my Fp gauge to the test port on the injection pump, I had to purchase 2 lengths of fuel line for it from genosgarage.com, but its kinda tight with 2 lengths. If i did it again i'd get 3 just so i have more slack.
