a few problems..help the newb please
I am having some issues with my 98.5 24v. First thing is the tranny feels like it doesnt know if it should lock up or not...it locks then unlocks, locks then unlocks...then when i am up to speed it locks but any slight pressure and it unlocks right away.
the second thing, if you take the rpm's above 2500 the engine feels like a gas motor missing and it huffs white smoke.
any info would be helpful

could be needing an apps reset or a reflash, try reseting apps first. if that doesnt work, get reflash, if that doesnt work, u need to buy the electronic noise filter from dtt transmissions.

Yup! Try the APPS reset first...

Your two complaints sound unrelated but the reset may fix it all?

If you followed the directions...you did it right...with one possible exception. I have had better luck, letting the truck sit with batteries disconnected for at least 1 hr. (2 hrs is even better).

Get that checked ASAP before it damages the injection pump ($1300).

Fuel Pressure is what we monitor, Volume is the test the Dealership uses to determine replacement.
You can attach a temporary guage to the schraeder valve on the side of the injection pump (has what looks like a valve stem cap on it).
Or you can (reccomended) get a permanent guage installed.
You want to be able to take a reading at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) under load, not just revving in park.
You can read up on the permanet guage in the Accessories/Performance section.
Temporary guage can be an A/C guage, as they use the same fittings.

I just got my gauges ...but I can not find the valve on the injection pump for the life of me...I am new at these clackers. Would the LP cause my shift issues also?
Oh and can one of those code readers from autozone "flash" the ecu?
thanks in advance

The valve is on the side of the injection pump, towards the bottom.
It should have a black plastic screw on cap, just like your tires.
Code readers from Autozone and the like can read the codes, but can't "flash" the ECM.
By "flash" I'm assuming you mean reprogram, like Superchips and the like.

Chapter President
That is correct....00 is the first year for the schrader valve banjo bolt on the VP....98.5 and 99 have two 1/8" pipe ports on top of the filter canister in which to take pressure readings.....one is pre filter, the other is post filter.....

I thought I was going nuts looking for that valve all night with a flash light
Well I did the APPS reset and the trans issue is gone, Now just the "missing" issue. I just got my 3 gauge pod and I am going to hook them up to see how my fp is looking.
