My Buddys Fan Clutch Keeps Goin Out
Hello a buddy of mine has a 2000 2500 24valve that is bone stock nothing added to the mixture and while towing the fan clutch stops working and causes the truck to over heat. he has replaced the fan clutch twice and is on a new fan clutch now. the fan clutch seems to be working while empty but it never has a chance to come on. Once a load is put on the trailer the fan clutch quits and causes the engine to over heat he did not say weather or not it was throwing a code. He has also replaced the thermostat I am also going to post this in the help form too so I can get him back on the road.

Unfortunately, fan clutches seldom fail at all, much less several in a row.
Have him check for something blocking the radiator, maybe between the ac condenser and the IC and the radiator - bugs, grass, leaves, weeds, piece of cardboard left over from winter use, old shop rag, etc.
Includes large area of smashed fins in the ac condenser coil.
Maybe even a long-forgotten pedestrian, from an old accident
Or, possibly the entire cooling system, incl the radiator, requires flushing.
Or, fan clutches come in clockwise rotation and clounter clockwise rotation - depends on whether the fan pulley is driven by the inside ribbed surface of the serpentine belt, or by the flat outside surface.
And they are designed for specific air flow while driving a specific fan blade, for diameter and number of blades, within a specified range of rpm's.
May be a universal replacement, but not as efficient as one designed for specific CW or CCW rotation.
