Fan Clutch to Electric Fans

i did a search and didn't see much talked about this. Getting rid of the fan clutch and installing electric cooling fans on back of radiator. I am doing this on 300z turbo to get rid of some the lag put on the engine by the fan. Granted it puts extra on my alternator, but thats an easy fix with an up in alternator size from 70 to 90. Just thinking outloud here but has anyone done this in their CTD??

It's pretty tough to find an electric fan that can move enough air. I think the stock fan moves 2600cfm!

This is one area where it's hard to improve on stock. A Horton fan clutch is about the best you can hope for.

250 watts on a 12VDC system equals approximately a 20.83 amp current draw (250/12) and produces 0.335 BHP (250/745.7). Even if the electric fan's airfoils were twice as efficient, it still cannot come close to moving the air that the engine-driven fan (6 BHP to 20 BHP or more, depending whose figures one uses) can move.

I tried a set of Flex-a-Lite 350 puller fans on my previous V-10 dually. These fans drew 50 amps (0.805 BHP), and they couldn't keep engine temperature down pulling our previous 5th wheel in Houston summer traffic. The stock fan with a good thermal clutch didn't have a problem.

If one is not going to work the truck, electric fans may work fine. Based on my experience, if one is going to tow heavy in high ambient temperatures, especially at low speeds, the electric fans won't cut it.

I read somewhere that Horton discontinued the electric fan clutch for the dodge, due to slow sales.

The Horton clutch is not discontinued but DC did quit selling it.....The Horton replacement electric fan clutch # is 996018 and it is a model EC450. You are however on your own for a wiring harness.

I wanted one, until I seen what the cost was. Too much $$$ for not much gained.

I read here that the stock fan moves around 10,000 CFM when its clutched in. I don't think there is an electric fan that can provide anywhere close to that.

My Electric Fans work Really well

Ive been using electric cooling fans for 2 years now, here in Virginia the tempreture is hoovering near 100 deg. this summer. My A/C is ice cold and the engine temperature never gets over 195 deg. Its alot of work to fit and control 2 pushers and 1 puller and an extra fan on the trans cooler.Once I dialed it in it works really well. As you can see from my profile I do run my truck really hard,I do work my truck also, tow a large slidein camper,But I have never towed over 8000 lbs for a long period of time.
