Exhaust Manifold Removal........need advice

I just discovered my exhaust manifold is cracked at two different places (very big cracks). Is this a common problem with these manifolds? I have not tried to remove it since I don't have a replacement yet. By the looks of it, it seems like the bottom bolts are going to be a pain to remove since the turbo is on the way. Any tips or suggestions to make the job easier ??

Also need to know where to buy the manifold with the lowest price. Cheapest I could find is $349 free shipping (http://www.alligatorperformance.com/...c3df68af543e1e).

Any other suggestions to get the best price.

Thank you all for the help.

When I replaced the turbo on my truck, I removed the turbo before removing the manifold. and installed the manifold before i installed the new turbo, went pretty smooth. I think it made it a bit easier, maybe there is a better trick Im not sure of. As far as a replacement I havnt replaced mine yet so im not much help there. Hope this helps.

Unbolt the turbo from the manifold. Leave it connected to the exhaust and the oil drain, and it stays pretty close to where you want it. The bolts on the manifold are pretty easy, they aren't all that tight, and I have never had any that were seized in. 24v has a problem with the bolts falling out on their own anyway.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Wait.......found this manifold --- http://www.naparts.net/EXHAUST-MANIF...-p8453793.html

Any thoughts??? Seems to cheap compared to the other ones I've seen. Could be in inferior quality?

Is the 3-piece design the way to go to prevent cracking?

If the pictures are the correct ones to what you'd be receiving, those are 12v manifolds and won't fit properly. It'll bolt up to the head and turbo fine, but the exhaust ports aren't the correct shape, and the bolts might not be the right length. Definitely can't use the spacers of the 24v bolts on a 12v manifold. Either way, get a 24v manifold.

Well the description at the bottom of the pages shows up to 1999 model year. I guess I'll have to call and make sure it's for a 24v. If it is for a 24v, do you think it's a good replacement for the price since it looks like a one-piece design like the stock ones? Or should I go ahead and spend more money on the more expensive ones?

Your motor came out in mid 98.
We call that 98.5, so the 2nd gen 12 valve overlaps 98 model year, and is 94 to 98.5.

That manifold will NOT work for a 24 valve.

Their years are messed up, as 96 and 99 don't take the same manifold. That should be a listing for a 94-98 like j-fox said.
