erratic shifting...
My truck is shifting funny while driving down the road anywhere from 45-55mph. It seems like it shifting back and forth from 2nd to 3rd. I tried to clean the APPS and that do anything for me. I thought that Piers had a filter to put on the transmission wire because it would send static back up into the wire or something. What could it be? It's driving me CRAZY!!

Torque converter lock/unlock
Basically my understanding is that the driving conditions meet the minimum requirements for t/c lockup and once it locks the RPMS/ Vehicle speed/ whatever have gone down so much that it unlocks.
Its REALLY annoying especially with aftermarket converter and trans, it gets downright harsh.
What I did was an APPS reset and just drove a little faster or slower. After a while, my truck doesnt do it anymore and when it starts to I just give it more throttle

The TC lock-unlock part is quite annoying.
Usually this cheap program helps a lot:
Step 1: Clean the battery posts- and use dielectric grease on them
Step 2: Clean the PCM contact- dielectric grease again.
Step 3: Do an APPS recalibration
Step 4: Use a shielded wire for the APPS signal to the PCM
Step 5: Install a separate ground for the PCM
Step 6: Buy a noise filter (eg from DTT)
Step 7: Let the dealer do a reflash of the PCM (if applicable)
All steps until no 6 do only involve materials for less than 1 US$ and do attack the problem at it's cause.

Two things to check...first...the Throttle Position sensor.
They are notorious.
also the speed sensor down on the tranny. both items cost forty to fifty bucks each.
Hook up a volt meter to the TPS and look for spiking .
I had a 92 with the same problem...
It was the TPS first time,the speed sensor the 2nd time.
I thought I was going to have to replace the overdrive unit in the tailshaft housing...
another thing to do is change the fluid in the tranny..these computer controlled trannys nowadays are very sensitive .....
I recommend using AMSOIL ATF.
