Is the engine an HO? 8th digit in the VIN is a 7

Hi,
I am looking at buying a 2001 3500 Diesel and was wondering if there is a difference in the VIN between a HO engine and the standard diesel. The 8th number is a 7 on this truck that I am looking at (Online). I have seen it in person yet. It has a 6 Speed also Also how do I tell if it has posi and what gears that are in it. I know on mine (12v) it is listed on a sticker under the hood. Thanks!

Glenn

Take your VIN to a dealer and get a build sheet. Unless something has been changed out the items you inquired about will be listed.

from what i gathered if its a 6spd it is the H.O. or 245hp engine.
I think that some 99-00 H.O. trucks had a 5spd

what do I know I thought I had a S.O. for the first 6mos I had it.

I needed the VP$$ to die to teach me otherwise

if its a 01 with a 6 speed its an HO. the 6 speeds only came behind the HO's. and im pretty sure the ho 6speed combos only came with D80's in the rear. also pretty sure they were all limited slip. but dont quote me.

Yes the 7 code means it's a HO. Being a six speed also means it is a Dana 80, but not all had limited slip. There should be a tag on the rear cover that tells you the gear ratio (will be 3.54 or 4.10), and if it is a limited slip, there MAY be another tag that tells you to use limited slip additive. It's best to get a build sheet.

All vin. for all makes & models , the 8th is the engine , the 10th is the yr. , as far as options , those are in other numbers .
