Question ENGINE CODES...some one tell me what i am posablily looking at!

Got a 24V truck with the following codes:

p-1689- No com. B/T ECM & Inj. Pump Mod.
p-0500- No VSS sig. (Dont have a clue on that one)
p-0216- Fuel Inject Pump Timeing Failure

Truck is cutting out and blowing lots of white smoke when it happenes. I like to jump on the bad pump band-waggon but like to do some sort of research before i tell him that! Need to help this kid out with some where to start! And for me to learn some in the process! Thanks all!

Have you tried removing the box and resetting the codes? Something is interfering with the communication bus signals.

You could try cleaning all the connectors, but it sure looks like you have a dead VP44.

I don't think I've heard of a pump that survived after throwing the P-0216.

What year 24 valve is it?

With the engine running like that a dealer could hook up their Cummins test box to eliminate the ECM from the picture. I have the feeling from the codes you listed it would run poorly with the box hooked up too. I'm leaning toward pump prob.

I agree with the others. It is probably the vp44 saying seeeya. That is what mine did when it went out. More than likely it will start doing it more and more often and take longer to come out of its funk until one day no more go.
