Question Does a simple way exist to theft proof?

Going out to TX to pick up my truck this weekend and will have a few overnight stays. Is their something I can do to theft proof the truck to make it harder to steal? I know on my Buick racecar I can pull the ECM out quick or just remove my thumbwheel controller going to it and unless someone brings their own it isn't going nowhere! Other tricks too like unplugging the fuel pump, etc.... Anthing I can do on this 2002 to make it harder?

Sleep in the truck, that makes it tought to steal.
Cheaper on your overall expenses too.

Dodge CTD is not high on the Mexican Export/Chop Shop List of desirables...at least, not in this part of the country. Don't think I have ever heard of a CTD being stolen by the pros?

You could always shove a towel up the exhaust pipe for overnight?

Actually removing fuses sounds real possible...have to research that idea. I'm afraid you would need things like an APPS reset procedure again in the morning??

I'm in Earleville, (I know, Redneck name for a town). We have NO stoplight!
We are just north of the Sassafrass River and just below the Bohemia. 14 miles to a 24hr. store, and thousands of acres of farm land, just how I like it. Ever been around the Chesapeake Bay? People form PA and NJ flock here in the summer, some fall in love with the waterways and stay. 220 miles of shoreline in our COUNTY alone (the whole state of New Jersey has 117 miles of Beach). Enough about me and my habitat.
I know there is a Southeast PA group, not sure on MD. Plenty of guys from VA, where are you located?
Hope all goes well with your truck, you seem pretty confident with the seller.

Pull the starter relay under the hood. This will keep them guessing awhile.

Where is the starter relay? Can't afford a code that won't clear though. I am in North East, MD by Turkey Point.

What year truck are you looking at? On my 2002 if I pull the in cab fuse #9 it is a 10 amp, the engine will not start, does not set any code.

2002. They would probably just swap another fuse quick on that one. May still be worth a try if it doesn't set a code.

Take a 10 amp fuse and cut one leg of it off and install it in place of the "good" fuse. It will crank over but not fire, like it is out of fuel. Unless they want to take a chance of being caught, they will not take the time to look for a reason the truck is not starting. If they really want the truck, they will flatbed it. You can also install, it is like the club, but locks the brake pedal instead of the steering wheel, I forget the name right now.

Casey

PS I own one of those brake disablers and cannot for the life of me think of it's name.

Alright, it was bugging me, so I went out to the truck, good thing I did. The brake disabler is called the AutoLock (http://www.autobarn.net/autolockpro.html) and the fuse to pull is #9, inside the cab.

Good Luck,

Casey

WOW! PARANOIA ! They probably carry the assortment of fuses in the same pouch where they keep their Buick thunbwheel controller.

Had some bad expiriences??

#9 fuse sounds like a winner to me! Hidden & simple. Thanks Casey for the great idea!

Not me personally but a member of our Buick club. He was in Atlanta (I have to go that way too) where he went with his truck and car trailer to pick up a Buick he paid 14,000 for. He had stopped to get a bite at a McDonald's and 5 min later when he come out his whole rig was gone.

Read it here: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/sho...ghlight=stolen

I am paranoid! Just one that site their are a bunch of other cars, etc... stolen. Anything worth taking is a target!
