dodge advise

I am running a 95 12 valve. ready to buy another and want to get around a 2000-2003 model, extended cab, manual shift. Is there any thing I need to look for, stay away from, or be aware of?

The only thing that I am aware of as a major problem is the lp. Make sure it is working right and put gauges on. Another thing to look for is if it has a 53 block. do a search on it and you will find out alot.

The 2001.5 is where the brakes changed over to rear disc if that is important to you. Also if you tow heavy you may want to go to a manual tranny. The Auto 47re can be a weak link but can also be beefed up with a valve body. Read here on the different forums and ask questions you will gain a wealth of info.

I'd say go with the 01.5 because of the rear disc brake set up if you tow. As far as the 53 block mine has 200k on it and it still runs like a top. The lift pump is more a pain then anything else

Lp is the electronic fuel pump that supplies fuel to the injector pump. They have a way of going out and if the are out long enough they will take the inj pump out. The 53 block is a casting number located around the powersting pump area on the engine. It was casted thinner then the other blocks and some people have had problems with them. Any other questions give a shout.

Is there still a mechanical transfer pump on the engine like I have on mine?

Is this number 53 easily seen?

The 12 valve has a mechanical pump and the 24 valve has the electical pump. The engine casting # is located ont the bottom of the block on the drivers side close to the front of the engine. Mine is a 55 and I need to get under the truck to read it. I read some posts recently where there seems to be diferent locations for the # I think DR, Evil said his was on the passanger side and was large letters. Just keep looking and doing searches on questions you have.
