Unless you're going to higher HP, or just want the full FASS, the HPFP would probably work for you and save you some $$$. I've been using one with my stock filter for over two years with no problems.

I take it the tank has to come down to access the fuel outlet on the sender unit? Not sure I can get to it and don't want to remove the bed (and cap) as the Fass install pages show (just for clarity). Gosh, must be 15 gallons of fuel in the tank now.

I moved my lp down by the tank with the Vulcan big line/relocation kit that costs $115. Pretty easy and you don't have to drop the tank or lift the bed unless you put on their draw staw (which I didn't). I'm happy and it's been almost a year with constant pressures of 14 @ idle and can't pull it below 10. Plus, if you have to change out the lp, it's a 10 minute job. For the money, this is what I recommend.

DO NOT DROP YOUR TANK unless you are 100% certian you have the intank lift pump conversion done...that is the ONLY reason to pull the tank.

Are you sure you have the correct kit? Should be a 1008 or 1003 kit.

I guess this is good news bad news. Factory LP is on the block - nothing in tank. Nobody around here has any LPs other than cummins block pump. I talked to Blue Chip diesel today and he said it's likely that both LP and IP are hosed but to find out, I'd need to replace the LP first since it isn't pumping. Decided to get the Cummins pump because it was cheap and I wanted to see if the IP was hosed. It is Plenty of fuel coming out of the LP now - can't get anything to the injectors. I cracked 1, 2 and 4 to bleed. A few bubbles out of 4 then nothing. Nothing out of 1 or 2. Back to Blue Chip tomorrow.

That sucks. Ok, since you have a new lp, go ahead and get the Vulcan big line/relocation kit from Genos garage and be one step ahead. If you don't have a fuel press. gauge...get one, then you will see this coming next time and head it off before it's too late.

Is there still a big failure rate of VP44's after a fresh VP is installed along with a Glacier or Fass system and a FP gauge? I know you can still lose the original VP after the installations, but it may have been damaged prior, but what is the success rate after the goodies are installed and you have a shiney new VP on the truck?

if you are looking for a FASS for a little over $450 shipped you can get one from Geno's. they also have a 30 psi elec. fuel pressure guage from Westach for about $85 shipped.

Unfortunately, I don't believe an after market pump helps protect the VP-44.... other than protecting against a lift pump faliure.
My FASS did smooth out the idle and increased fuel pressure while eliminating the lift pump, but I still lost a VP-44 down the road.

I don't think the vote is in yet on rebuilt VP-44's. They will have to go 100,000-200,000 miles before they prove to be better.
