Do I have A Boost Leak? Or A Fuel Issue?

As of late my truck has ran top notch not a glich one but as for the last week that leaves less to be desired. I have noticed my truck seems to be a big rolling paper weight it seems real sluggish and has not power at all. With a all alum horse trailer and one horse pulling a hill the best i can do is fourth gear if i go to fifth like i usted to be able to my egts climb fast so in fourth at 1900-2000rpm at about 40mph i can keep my egts at around 900 like i usted to be able to do in fifth gear at about 55mph. So now heres the question when i do run though the gears it seems too lose rpms fast and when i hit the next gear it bogs way down and blows black smoke like no other then clears up which is why i think boost leak. So I got home today checked my boots and the lower boot on the pasanger side is coverd in oil and is way softer then the others and also the pipe goin to the turbo bottom has groves wore in it from the plastic wire cover i noticed also. But what has me baffled is the fuel issue side of things truck starts every time first crank no hard starts and has no other signs of fuel issue but every so often i can hear a differnt knock from the engine bay so which is why i belive its not getting enuff fuel. So any help would be nice but i might have both issues to deal with and thank god its goin to the dealer tomarow and i hve 30k left on the warrenty.

Keep us posted on the results. I had oil accidently fall on that same intercooler hose and didn't even think a thing about it...til you mentioned the weakened hose. I'll definitely take a good look at it tomorrow but I'd love to hear if it had anything to do with your situation. I'll keep my eyes on this thread.

*UPDATE*

Got the truck back this after noon after work the "said they could not find any thing wrong with it and it seemed to have plenty of power" so i get on it goin home and right around 1800-2300rpm range this is a differnt truck it does not drive and feel like it did this whole weekend. So now I ask what is it they could have done or any thing that they did that would have made a differnce? cause it did not feel this strong at all this weekend.

*UPDATES UPDATE*

Since getting the truck back and having it seem like it was running fine again I hooked up to the horse trailer for the first time and its still a dog. Here is what the fuel pressue numbers were when they tested it and told me its fine.

10.5psi at idle 12psi at bump start and 8.5psi at 2000rpms now come on tell why they say thats normal this is bs I know when this thing gets load on it pulls that 8.5 way down i mean way down how do i get this place to fix this darn problem.

If you only have 10 psi at idle, chances are your lift pump is on its way out. Get a fuel pressure gauge on it so you can see what you have with a load on it. If it drops it to zero when pulling, it'll lack power, and you're chancing your IP.

There is nothing wrong with those readings. Mine has been 11 to 12 at idle, 10 light throttle cruise speed, and 5 at wot. It passes the volume tests and has been that way since i put guages on it at 25,000 miles and i have 76,000 now. What is your boost pressures?

Hmmm, my FP gage read a bit higher. idle=12 bump starter=13.5 curise about 2000 RMM=8-9 psi.

I assume this is normal. When I start out, truck appears to be warmed up, coolent temp =190* The EGT's at cruise=800* FP=8psi overhead comp shows MPG about 14.

After about 25-35 miles of crusing coolent=190* EGT's 650-700 FP=9psi, MPG= 16.5.

have you checked for codes? sounds like it could be the injection pump. Mine is doing the same thing, runs great without the trailer behind it, but when I get it loaded up it will start giving some dead pedal symptoms. I have a lift pump that is going bad and i am going to put a glacier diesel kit on it monday, but I have a feeling that my injection pump still may be hurt.

Since this truck is stock, I would look at the intercooler boots, I will guess one is off or has a hole. Happened to my Dad once (boot was not tightened) and it was such a dog and blew all kinds of black smoke when pullin a trailer.
