difference between 47re and 48re
Ok guys I need to know what the difference is and is it possible to put a 48re in a 2001 Dodge diesel? What all would I have to do? Can I take the internals out of the 48re and install them in my 47re?

The VB is different but can be used in a 47, the 3rd gear drum holds and extra clutch, but I believe you'll need a cut apply plate to run six frictions instead of 5.
Contact Dave Goerend he'll give you the information you're looking for.

The 48 RE also has the 6 pinion planets, and depending on the year has more OD clutches. Yes you can put the guts from a 48 into a 47 case---fits like a glove. And as mentioned, has one more clutch in the direct drum.
