Re:Diesel bucks or hard to accelerate @ 2000+ rpm

I was really cautious tonight driving this but the truck did half way decent. I called the dealership and they said the cummins warranty might cover any problems going on with the fuel system so that’s a good thing. I added some stp diesel treatment to the fuel so hopefully that will help (or screw things up worse [undecided]). Its about 10 degrees out so I will take it out tonight and see how she does.

Thanks for all the replies, made this my new home page!
Re:Diesel bucks or hard to accelerate @ 2000+ rpm

Ok the dealer called me today, bam it was the lift pump. Weird thing is that they told me that a cap was put on the fuel tank breather which caused this problem. Anyways though they are going to cover it so it will just cost me 85 for the diagnostic fee. Thanks for all the help, as I will be back with more questions and hopefully answers in the future

Matt

i also recently purchased a 24v 98.5 w 63 k miles..1st thing that went was the lift pump (crankshaft position sensor shortly thereafter) anyway, $180.00 through cummings direct, easy to install

Diagnostic fee???

Void - If this is a warranty deal, then the warranty should also cover the diagnostic fee. Your dealer is probably collecting this twice: once from you, once from DC.

You're getting taken for the $85.

GET YOUR INJECTION PUMP REPLACED!!!

It sounds like you drove it quite a bit with that lift pump bad. Do what ever you can to get it replaced.

If the dealer gives you flak, just get some testimonials from here about what happens when the lift pump goes...

I am still battling with Chrysler, I have 52,000 miles and am on my 3rd injection pump, 5th lift pump...

Fight hard for that injection pump or get some kind of written guarantee from the dealer against future failure of the injection pump for the next 50,000 miles.

And, get your "Diagnostic" fee back too. You are getting double charged!

Re:Diesel bucks or hard to accelerate @ 2000+ rpm

Well the dealer charged me the fee to cover removing the so-called "cap" over the breather valve on the fuel tank. They claimed they have seen this before and that the cap caused the lift pump to work over time. In theory it sounds ok so I went ahead and went along with it. By the way this son of biatch is fast as hell now. Massive difference from when I first bought it and now. I can usually pull on those little imports, which is pretty when you see the look on people's faces when an 8,000lb+ truck pulls on their little Honda.

Thanks for all the help again guys. I will defiantly be taking it to the dealer a few more times before my warranty is up.

Matt
