Dependability?

Dependability?
I have an 01 with 205,000 miles, I bought it new. It has 5 speed and all the running gear seems Ok. I am starting to worry about things going bad like high pressure pump, injectors. It has been fantastic so far and it sounds like my pump should have failed by now. Will the pump just die or is there some warning first? How many miles before the front wheel bearings fail? It seems like it has all the same power it has always had and the mpg is still good 18-20 depending on speed. I like to tow the boat to the ocean for fishing and it is about 1,000 round trip. I would hate to be stranded along the freeway. I have had to replace the APP sensor but that's about the only repair and thanks to this site it was cheap for me to replace by myself. Thanks, Bob

Sounds like a keeper.
I, too am starting to think my front wheel bearings should be next on the list. I have run stock size tires for teh 129K miles so I should be ok for a while...
As for the vp44...who knows? You want good fuel pressure from the lift pump and good filtration to keep that item working smoothly. Over a 1/4 tank of fuel at all times is helpful too.
I am hoping to swap out the front hubs to the Dynatrac free spin unit eventually, just aren't ready to drop $1800 on the kit right now...

That truck is a keeper for sure.
I had thought about the freespin hub kits, but as I mentioned in another thread, I added amsoil to the front hub assemblies, after the stock ones failed prematurely. The new hubs have been on since, and no problems. Just something to think about.

^^^That is an interesting maintenance step, I wish I knew about it at 48K when I got my truck....
Going to add some today.
The freespin hub is attractive to me for all the highway travel I do. I figure it could save fuel and wear and tear and definitely upgrade the bearings assemblies for the front end.....

I have a 98.5 with about the same mileage or maybe a tad more. Just a while back I lost by original VP44, but it was how I lost it that I haven't completely figured out. I put about 3/4 of a tank in it (had a tad less than a 1/4) and on the way home it started missing like it had water in the fuel.........I don't know if it was starving for fuel (my pressure gauge was on the blink) or if it was it's time. After I replaced the Injector pump it did it again (missing) so I rebuilt by fuel pickup canister.....the point of my reply here. It wasn't really fun but now I have complete confidence in my fuel supply....p.s. you will note in my signature I have a Walbro lift pump....replaced the stock LP when I bought the truck and changed the filters (would't prime) 6 years earlier and about 198K miles.

I'm probably getting due for new front bearings also and I was going to try doing the job myself.

I have the same truck but 50,000 more miles. Have replaced the injector pump because of a failed lift pump. You might consider replacing it or at least watch the pressures to save yourself a lot of money.
