Denso Starter

Denso Starter
A few years back I junked the cummins starter that came in my 01 and put an autozone cheapo in my pickup. Well now that I know better and realized I should have kept and rebuilt it I wanna get a new one. Only problem is the 01's didn't come with Denso as a stock starter, that was only the 94-00's. I made a few phone calls to shops that rebuild starters and they said the geometry between the Denso's for 94-00 and the cummins for 01 are slightly different. I'd like to go with Denso just cause they are cheaper than the cummins option for the unit and parts. So has anyone here put a Denso on their 01?

Thats the starter I was lookin at gettin, but like it says for application years, only 94-00. I wouldn't imagine it bein different than an 01 setup but wanted to make sure before I fork out the money for it.

Hope you don't mind my jumping in on this thread but what's the expected life of a stock starter?
I have 210,000 on my stock unit and have only changed about the contacts and bushings about 50k ago (Larry B's).
I have installed new batteries a few weeks ago but still seems to be slower to crank than it used to.
Is it wise to replace at a certain point?
Better to pull and rebuild?

I kept my stock starter when I purchased this chinese orillys starter for a $5 core charge. When I took my stock starter off the label says "Nippondenso P/N Cummins P/N"
I replaced it last tuesday... and yesterday and this morning I had to crank it for about 3 seconds to get it to start but when its hot it cranks just fine. I dunno if its this starter or what

AZ starters are pretty much junk; I've replaced 3. It was on the truck when purchased. The 3rd one lasted 9mo. So that means probably 4 exchanges. Nothing I can do except keep exchanging unless I fork out $$$ for another brand. I'd check the contacts on my factory one first or NAPA if in the market for a whole new starter.
