DC bulletin, FP guage will void warrenty?
ya you read the title correct, I went to the dealer on Friday cause my psi was finally 4psi@ idle(its been up & down past 2months) when I got there the "diesel tech" told me he got a bulletin from dodge that if I have a FP gauge hooked up they will not test the fuel pressure. I asked to see the bulletin but he said it was for internal use only. Only thing he kept repeating was that "the FP gauge adds a extra tree to the fuel line and causes the pressure to be low" I know it sounds like BS but thats what he kept saying. I stated that if it wasn't for my FP gauge I would of been towed there twice already cause I couldn't tell that the LP was on its way out. After arguing with him, the service manager and dealer manager I got tired of talking and left without them testing the pressure. The guage is still reading 4psi@ idle. Now what to do ??
Now has anybody heard of this and/or had this happen?? They say the bulletin came out last week. Now if this is true we all be screwed cause without the FP gauge ...well we all know what will happen.
Only good thing ...I guess is that they received the new intank pumps last week.

Yes, there is a 2nd gen retro fit kit for the in tank LP from DC. The part # for the kit is 5175538AA. So far, the feedback about the performance of the pump is very poor, IMO......how does 8 psi at idle sound?.....or 0 psi at WOT? Not good but some seem to favour this new pump anyway?!?!
FWIW, the FP gauge voiding the warranty is another load of BS from DC. To suggest that gauge adds an additional load on the fuel system that could compromise the VP or LP is just silly.......sounds like they are trying to widdle their way out of more LP/VP warranty work. I can see it now : "Sorry sir, we are voiding your warranty on your LP and VP because of your FP gauge.....yup, the LP pressure is low...it should be replaced....how about our really expensive in-tank retrofit kit that performs the same as your old worn out LP?"
ARGHH!!!

But I going to check in on this so called warranty VOIDED because of FP guage...
This is complete BS!
So what happens when the hook up a pressure guage to the schader valve? Doesn't that add another "extra tree" to the fuel system!
I can see this if the fuel line was flowing fuel out the other end but it's not... Other than that my cab would be a diesel swiming pool!

My ex dealer tried that same routine on me 3 or 4 years ago. Boy did he regret that one. I lit into him like there was no tomorrow throwing nothing but facts that I've learned from this site in his face. Needless to say I had to remove the fuel pressure gauge for them to warranty the pump. No big deal. Took 10 minutes. I just left the line dangling. You might try that one.

well i think its a load of pure BS too, but now I have to figure out waht to do, either disconnect it or fight with DC/dealer.
crobtex, the dealer knows me and knows that i had the guage in b4 the bulletin cause i had 2 LP replaced there.
if anybody has or can get a copy of this so called bulletin I'd luv to see it

I've never seen a tsb that stated that.....only this...TECH-TIPS # 30 - 1998.5 – 2004 DR TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE AND AN IN-TANK FUEL PUMP MODULE – LOW FUEL PRESSURE CONCERNS
The Dealer Technical Support Department has received several calls from dealers regarding low fuel pressure after installing an in-tank fuel pump module kit. Typically these concerns arise from customers who have installed a fuel pressure gauge and have noticed a substantial drop in fuel pressure after the engine mounted transfer pump was replaced by an in-tank fuel pump. As mentioned in Technical Service Bulletin # 14-002-03, "Diesel Transfer Pump Diagnosis" the improved procedures test the "flow" capability of the pump to determine if sufficient fuel is reaching the injection pump from the low-pressure system. Please inform owners with low fuel pressure concerns that as long there is sufficient flow, (1.33 litres in 25 seconds) there is enough fuel being supplied to the high pressure pump and in-tank pump replacement is NOT required.
When diagnosing a driveability concern, DO NOT replace in-tank pumps for low fuel pressure, they should ONLY be replaced if they flow less than 1.33 liters in 25 seconds. If sufficient fuel reaches the injection pump from the low-pressure system, then the cause of the engine performance problem lies elsewhere

During my fuel presser gauge install and readings after I called the my dealer and setup an appt to have the LP checked. I asked if they had a problem with me tapping into the shrader on the VP44 and they didn't, they just said they would leave the gauge disconnected. I guess it's all about the dealer and not DC.
