cummins warranty work?
I had a diesel mechanic that works for AAA towing company here in NE tell me I could take my truck directly to the cummins shop here for warranty work and not bother with the dealer. He said it was a common misconception that you must go to the dealer????????????
Thoughts, comments, or snide remarks!!!
this would be great, but seems to me they wouldn't like sticking their fingers in a dodge chassis and programming. I have no idea. J-body somebody? anybody?

No.
Only way to get warranty coverage is through Dodge.
Dodge dealer may, if they don't have a diesel mechanic on staff, refer you to the nearest Cummins shop and still be covered by warranty.

As far as I know you have to use a DC, specifically Dodge, dealer for warranty. I have heard of instances where a dealer doesn't have a diesel tech and the work is farmed out, but I have no idea on what's allowable, or if it is possible. I've also heard that the electronics are Dodge specific and really don't share that much in common with the larger vehicles using the same engine. Maybe John can touch on this being he's on the "truck shop" side of things.

I dont know if you mean me. but there is a clause in the Dodge warranty that state if no diesel tech or dealer is available within so many miles, dont remember what the mileage is , something like two hundred miles, it could be farmed out to Cummins. and DC would compensate Cummins back. BUT that only works if it is 02 and older... we just cant communicate with the 03 and newer engines. we do alot of Dodge Cummins in our shop, and when we have a 03 or newer customer come in and we explain we cant work on it, most of them just dont understand why when they see other dodge truck in the shop. We have about 10 of the newer CR Dodge Cummins in our branch and most of them are over 100,000, we send them to Dodge for any work, had one sent out last month for misfire... they found #6 injector, but they didnt have the injector and didnt know when they would have one. we had some in stock , so we got the truck back and replaced it ourselves. I myself feel we are losing money by not making a investment in the equipment needed to work with the newer Dodge Cummins.
