hey guys,
do any of you know the p/n for the cummins thermostat. i went to cummins today to get one and they charged me $120 for p/n 3946849. they guy said it was a 180* thermostat and they don't have other temps available, just the 180.
does this sound right?
thanx,
jason

ive got a 180 new in box cummins part #3967195
looks just like the 195 stant 14289...i bought the cummins t-stat 4 years ago and haven't used it yet maybe old number by now, but i dont think so. oem for my 99 was a caltherm 180. the 190 does help to lessen the cycling.

Dealer here to wanted 120$, poor old Canadian dollar's taken a beating, I went with the stant 190F(around 35$) so far no issues, no temp surges and gets up to temp fairly quick.

no kidding, $120 bones for a t-stat!!!
so it sounds like the one i got (3946849) is a 190 - that's funny because the parts guy said it was a 180 and that cummins only uses 180's.
looks like i need p/n 3967195 if i want a 180.
nickg - how do you like the 190? i am pretty green with this stuff, so what would everyone recommend: a 180 or 190 for the alberta climate?

I've been running the Stant 190 thermostat, I cant say if its any better or worse than the OEM one, My truck runs 8-10hrs daily, year round, temp gauge does not fluxuate, goes up to 190 and stays there,(unless idling for extended periods in fridgid temps) I'd definitately pick the 190 over a 180 UNLESS I was towing or having issues trying to have it run cool in the summer.
The only good thing is its easy to change the stat out

I've been running a stant t-stat for 3 years now, with no problems.
Being that the original lasted 5 years, we'll see if the price difference, (120 vs 29 bucks) is justified by the longevity.

even if there was it would not help your truck in any way shape or form. 165 is too cold, incomplete combustion and carbon build up will result. you need heat to be efficient and make power
