Cranks and cranks finally starts.

99' Quad cab 4WD, automatic, short bed all stock.
I have lately had a hard time starting my truck, its hotter than Hades here in Houston,so I checked and "load" checked batteries first,OK. Seems as though I can open the drain on fuel filter draw off a pint and the truck starts great. Mechanics says no air leaks,FP is low, he believes its a software patch for the computer? I have had this issue before and replaced the lift pump 16 months ago, in tank I believe. Repalced ther starter too 2 years ago, could it be a starter thats causing this? Dealer wants 100 bucks for an ECM reset. Mechanic is scratching his.........head. Help, thanks.

Looks like you need a new mechanic. How "low" is low? Low FP is death to the VP. You need gauges.

Is it a hard start even if you shut it down & try to restart? Got any codes?

Starter spins the engine. If engine is spinning, you don't need a starter.

Fuel pressure is low??? the spec from Chrysler is 430ml of flow in 10 seconds.(sounds like BS to me) In-tank pump is garbage! I just replaced my VP 44 I checked the fuel pressure with a gauge and I had about 6 PSI at Iidle and 0 PSI at high idle. With the in-tank pumps they are more concerned about flow rather than pressure. Chrysler says this is normal, I am not buying it there is something about a gauge reading 0 that just doesn't sit well me. I am in the process of adding a draw straw to the existing in-tank pump and switching back to an external lift pump.

Better get used to changing out VPs unless you get more fuel & use something to bump the lubricity. Stock pump in tank or external doesn't get the job done.
