Crank trigger

Crank trigger
Hi all,

Today the check engine light came on and stayed on. Truck was running fine, but I took it to the dealer anyway. They did the diagnostic check and said that the crank trigger went bad. (covered under warranty due to federal emissions) They won't be able to replace it until Tuesday morning.

My question is: I have a 250 mile roundtrip to do tomorrow. I sthis something to be concerned about? Is the truck going to be "ok" or should I cancel the trip. Thanks! and Happy Holidays!!

Re:Crank trigger
If it's the Crank Position Sensor (I don't see the year model) it could have been an intermittent problem the triggered the fault or it could be going bad. If it is an HO engine and it is the Camshaft Pos Sensor, like the older model 24V with the Crank Pos Sensor, this controls the pump timing. If it fails, you could be stranded.

Re:Crank trigger
Thanks for the reply Smoke Dog. According to the summary report the dealer gave me, it's the Sensor-Crankshaft Position.
My truck is a 2000 and is not an HO. but to play it safe, I won't drive it unless locally.
Thanks again!

Re:Crank trigger
I just had mine replaced Thursday, the light came on about a month ago and went off after 4 to 5 start ups, and then came on again and after starts went back off. I never notice any difference in performance, was told that it could lead to hard starting problems. I drove mine several hundred miles before changing it out.
