Crank Position Sensor Replaced, now won't start
Looking for a little guidance here ... working on my 99, had codes and intermittant tach inop, all pointed to CPS, so tonight I removed the starter, got the old CPS out after some coersion & twisting, replaced it, put it all back together and I now have a "no crank" condition. Harness snapped onto new CPS, Lights are strong, battery cable and trigger wire are both connected & verified. Thoughts? Bad Sensor? It's late, but what am I missing? Any help appreciated.

Correct, it was late last night so I didn't test any circuits, but everything lights up on the dash, then the "wait to start" light goes out and when turning the ignition key to "start" there is a pull on the electrical system, but absolutely nothing happens. A weak battery may only elicit a click from the solenoid, but I'm not even getting that. Perhaps it is coincidental and something else is at play, but I'm wondering if the new sensor isn't being recognized by the ECM and thus the ECM won't allow power to the starter? How "smart" is the system? With a bad ECM will the truck still crank over?

Did you knock the plug loose in the transmission while you were working down there? Could be the neutral safety switch. Try starting it in neutral. Or if it is a standard transmission check the clutch switch.

Probably a stupid question, but did you check the starter solenoid fuse in the box under the dash? I fought with this same problem for a while until I discovered that there actually was a fuse!

Thanks for responding folks, I'm actually out of town, but will try your tips when I return. I guess by way of your notes, it isn't a "defective sensor" causing this. I'll let you know what I find out ...

It was the 30amp iGN fuse that had blown. The starter trigger wire ring is a little large and bent, so I think it must have grounded against the starter at some point, and in reconnecting wires must have not noticed when I disconnected them. Thanks for everyone's guidance, as usual, great website and great people. TIP: use a 4" extension with a deep 10mm socket to reach the top starter bolt from below, with a ratchet just forward of the starter.
