Cracked Transfer Case?
Hi All. Headed to the desert yesterday. Noticed severe vibration at 75 mph. After returning home, I crawled underneath to observe the obvious. What i found was the right rear of the t-case was covered in ATF that was coming down from the top. It is not constantly dripping, but their was a sign of dripping on the bottom of the case itself.
I was thinking that the vibration was due to bearing failure in the drivetrain somewhere. I checked the t-case fluid level and found that it was slightly full. Tranny fluids are also good. Now I can notice the vibration coming on under moderate acceleration. Im wondering if a crack in the t-case is allowing enough movement in the bearings to cause a vibration and is the cause of the leak under high speeds. I havent towed anything since last August, and the majority of the miles since then have been put on in town. Anybody else's opinion is appreciated.

I hope thats all that it is. I plan on doing that when my workload permits. I still am curious though where the ATF is coming from . Thanks for the reply.

Take a look at the carrier bearing for vibration problems. The one where the two piece driveline comes together.
As for the leak, if the dipstick shows full, maybe someone overfilled the T-Case. There is a breather somewhere on top.

The breather on top makes sense. Later tomorrow night, i will see if i can locate it. This truck does not have a carrier bearing though. It is 4x4. I still haven't had time to pull the d-lines out. I will try tomorrow night as well. Thanks all.
