Couple of Questions of 2cycle
Been running 2 cycle every fill up for the past month or so. My questions are, do I need to run an additive to clean every thing out every once and a while? Do I need to run 2 cycle every fill up or every other? Thanks for the help guys.

a buddy here has been selling his customers 2 cycle oil for over a year. I saw him buying parts at local kenworth shop..we chatted about it I showed him the walmart 2stroke outboard I have been running every tankfull since vp44 replacement in feb.no issues no smoke and when I pulled tank to replace corroded sending unit lines no residue in tank..when I change my fuel filter is a blue tint to fuel no residue there either..our two cats have been on two cycle over a year every tank we dont measure just dump a gallon in per tank and fill..one is a 3406c 1.4 million miles 200k since major.no smoke an all kinds of power.other is a 3406 e with 845k and when pulled head looked very clean for the milage..so I would say every tank use it.we also use howes in our trucks full dose in winter and half dose summer.

I would say you definetly need to run an additive. Do a search and you'll find all kinds of info on this, but in this day and age of ULSD, something is needed to improve the lubrucity of the fuel for these sensitive VP44's. Anything is better than nothing. That and some of the most common additives can be had cheap at places like walmart (ie powerservice).
Best is biodiesel though, it seems.
Do a search. Enough reading for hours I'd bet.

Just run the 2 stroke oil. I run 16 ozs in every tank and have for 2 years now. The engine is quieter than any of the off the shelf additives have ever made it. And independent testing shows the 2 stroke oil to be right up there with the best additives anyway. The biggest percentage of the off the shelf additives are solvent based.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
ULSD has lube additive added to protect injection system. No need for more. The amount of money spendt needleslly far exceeds any supposed increase in life of pump. Think about it!!!! Additive sales are tremendous profit base for many companies. The more you are convinced you need the more porfitible for them. This is the greedy parting you of your money. Spend you money on preventive manintaince and safety if you must spend your extra money.

Independent testing has proved that it does NOT have adequate lube added to it at all. I've seen 3 separate test reports on ULSD from different stations in different areas of the country and they were all in the 660 range for lubricity. Here is an article done by Bosch back in 03 showing the effects of our horrible fuel on a pump.

US ULSD fuel consistently runs over 650 on lubricity. Totally unacceptable. Bosch wants to see 460. I think I'll stick with adding my 2 stroke oil. Our local Bosch pump shop has even confirmed the Bosch article with the amount of business they have been seeing since ULSD was brought on board. Trusting the Government to ensure that something is done correctly is like trusting the fox to guard the henhouse.
