I only have 66,000 miles on my truck, but it has #53 on both driver and passenger sides. Both the same size and in the same area of the block.
Any others out there with high mileage 53 blocks that can check?

thats means you have the worst block on the face of the earth and are gaurenteed to crack sometime in the next couple of years. B.S. that is the stupids things ive heard, and somebody tryed to tell me that just buy the fix you have to call the link back in the page. that should prevent if not stop the crack it doesnt happen all of the time. there are alot of very high horse and commmercial used 53 blocks that have not cracked. its a weak spot in the metal.be thin from a casting movement. i wouldnt worry just get the fix and youll be fine i made the freeze plug fix when none existed and my hasnt cracked and its been over 150000 that its been on and no problems.

Does anyone have any idea how many "53" blocks are out there and if any of these 98.5 - 2001 DON'T have a 53 block? What are the chances you have a 53? Is it a 100% chance you have a 53 from 1998.5-2001? I was thinking about buying a truck and I can't afford anything newer than 2001..so I was thinking of buying in these years...but don't even want to deal with a 53 block even if they have a lock n stich fix.

i wouldnt worry about it cracking and there were blocks that were not 53 so you have to look for yourself. and the special freeze plug girdle is pretty cheap.

I have one with a #53 on both sides, essentially stock powerwise, highway queen, minimal towing, and NO cracky (yet....). As a matter of fact, its one of blocks featured on Stameys #53 webpage.

Ok so I have been reading some info about the non "53" block and numbers that are there in place of the 53, or maybe I read it wrong. Either way my block has "55". Can I get some clarification on this such as where my block was cast and clarification that I have a good block? My truck is a late 2001.5. Thanks for the help!

Jason,
Your 55 block is just fine from what I remember reading in past years about this subject. You probably have nothing to worry about. It's just the 53s. You can probably do some searching related to 55 to find more details.
