Question Conclusion...150gpm vs 95gpm?

From my previous thread "Died AGAIN" (can be read here) https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=255814 I determined that I will just break down and buy the VP and new lift pump as well. I can't afford the whole FASS system but was thinking of getting a package deal with the VP and a FASS brand lift pump (using the OEM filtration). They offer a 95 gpm and a 150 gpm pump for the same price. Would there be any reason not to get the 150 gpm? You can check it out here, and let me know what you think. Combo Pack #3http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/bo...ector-pump.htm

Thanks again, for all the advice that helped me troubleshoot this far.

When I had my 2nd gen I replaced the LP with a fass one also and considered going with the 150. Until I found out I had to drop the tank and drill it to put in the draw straw so I went with the 95 and used the stock fuel filtration. I left the lift pump on the block so I would not have to find a plate.

A year later I had to drop the tank anyways due to the sending unit going out.

Boy that truck cost me ALLOT of money...

Yeah...it's beginning to cost me a lot. You're talking about the fuel level sending unit, to the gauge, right? How difficult was that to change?

To change it wasn't THAT bad, but up here everything is rusted and once the tank was dropped the sending unit was very finicky. When putting the cap back on, be VERY careful, it took me about an hour to get it so it would not cross thread. Make sure you siphon as much fuel out as you can and use 2 floor jacks to drop the tank. Get a friend to help also, makes a big difference.

Well after a series of ridiculous events the VP and a stock lift pump should be in my possession around Tuesday. Let's just say it has been a royal pain in the wazoo (not even sure what a wazoo is, but I'm sure it is in pain right now) on just getting the parts ordered. After not going with the first online store of choice...I now know where I'll never try to buy parts from again!!

Hey Rocky If I were you I would invest in the low pressure alarm and light this same thing just happened to a bud of mine and I showed him that he was happy to see that there is a way to avoid the costly dead pedal.........

Is that something that comes with the pump or can it be bought and installed later. As it is I'm already out $1300 I was not expecting to spend a few weeks ago.

It can be installed anytime ,but I would go with a guage. As far as drop'in tank to change out sender and add drawstraw...... If you got helpers its easier to take box off in the long run. I just raised mine a foot off frame and worked on it that way.I have a hoist and a spreader to take boxes off though. If your going to install drawstraw get 1 from vulcan per. no drilling req'd. $1,300...... I've got over $2,500 in mine....

Well...I'll never know for sure what it was. I changed the lift pump, cam position sensor, and injector pump. Finally it runs!!! The VP remove and install was not as difficult as i thought, either. I found videos of Diesel Dan doing the complete job on youtube. I highly recommend watching it. It clears up a lot of confusion for those who have never done the job. I personally drew aindex mark with a permanent marker on the front of the new shaft. It came in handy to line the shaft up with the keyway.

Thanks everyone who gave their advice and opinions. This forum has been a great help to me on several occassions.

Just so you know you can remove the OEM Lift pump from the bracket, but leave the bracket there. Makes a little more room down there, JMO.

I ran a 150 GPH FASS through a stock fuel pickup for a long time with no issues. That being said, 150 GPH is overkill for just about all applications. I run a 95 GPH now, and I've never had any low pressure issues.

If you do a draw straw, lift the box off to do it. People have issues with sucking air when the tank gets low. Reason being, the tank natually has a saggy botto, due to only two straps. Most people lift it in the middle, which makes the depth much shallower. If you do it with the box off, the tank stays in its natural position and you can cut it to the correct length.
