Cold weather operation
I'm heading to Amarillo this afternoon, Temps are a little bit cooler there than where I am at. Will it help to keep the engine temp up around the 190 degree mark or does it make any difference? I have noticed that my Temp runs considerably cooler right now. Just curious

I don't think the temp matters much, It has gotten in the teens here and I have been hauling and my engine temp always runs cooler in the winter time. No big deal to me, I don't see any problems with the temp running cooler then in the summer. Mine will stay under the 190 mark.

I don't know HG, when I had mine loaded the other day with 26 head at 500# avg and my 5400# Featherlite mine still never hit the 190 mark.

You may want to look into a 180 degeer stat. I know some guys have switched the 190 to 180s. I think I got that right if I understood them right.

Now in the summer time with that load I would be above the 190 mark

Re:Cold weather operation
I believe the engine is spec'd to run at 190 degrees, so I would not move so fast in concluding that (a) you can switch to a 180 'stat, or (b) you can run below 190 for long periods of time.

that said, my '02 runs cooler as well in the winter but that leads me to believe I need to use a winter front. These engines are designed around a 190 degree operating point and (in my opinion) should be kept there.
