how much does the cold weather affect fuel mileage? i live in oklahoma city and since october when the weather started getting colder till now this week when the highs are in the teens and twenties my fuel mileage has gone from the summer when i was getting at least 15mpg it seem on highway and no less than 14mpg on city streets till now where i cant make it climb above 13.6 to mostly 13.1mpg

i have owned the truck just over a year and two years ago the vp-44 was replaced along with the lift pump, shortly after i bought the truck the lift pump failed and i had to replace it but it didnt take down the vp-44. and the previous owner said he was getting up to 17mpg empty and about 13to 14 if he was running a heavy load. since the day of purchase i have never seen a anything above 15.3mpg

so i dont knowif any of this helps but i thought that i could offer a little background info on my truck and the situation. PLEASE I NEED ANY AND ALL INFO YOU GUYS HAVE THIS CRAPPY FULE MILEAGE IS KILLING ME

Winter fuel will have a negative effect on MPG. I normally get 16-17 with mostly city miles. Filled up today and got 15. Thats with about 200 highway miles of 65 mph or less.

Sound pretty normal to me

the winter fuel makes a big differance to me,
in cold weather with more warm up idleing burns more,
try covering up the radiator ...its hard to get these things warmed all the way up.

losing 1-2 MPG aint too bad IMO

as far as the previous owner MPGs vs. yours....thats all in the drivers style

I think winter fuel does effect mileage. Summertime I get 18-19mpg out of my 12 valve every fill-up. Winter it drops to around 16-17mpg. I dont know what the cause is, except maybe less energy due to additives.

winter fuel is a blend of #1 and#2 diesel..... number one fuel has less BTU's than #2 ,
that is the reason for lower mileage..
if you were to use straight #1 your mileage would drop even more..

My summer and winter mileage seems pretty comparable except at higher speeds. Anything above 70 mph and I seem to lose 1.5 mpg in the winter.

I just returned from a 3000 mile midwest trip (KS & OK) in this extreme cold and saw everywhere from 15.4 (lots of 4wd, snow drifts, and idling) to 20.4 (at about 65mph highway) and averaged about 18.5. - Hand Calculated

Maybe i'm lucky but your mileage seems a little low. It could just be differences in a 3500 vs a 2500 or driving style.

Also, IMO the mileage box in my sig does not work. I saw no mpg improvement and it started throughing codes 6 months after installed. I no longer use it.

I don't know what is going on everyone seems to get decent mileage and I can't seem to make it move for nothing whether I drive like I'm racing or I have even tried for a couple weeks driving like a little old lady and I never go more than 70mph on the highway cause it's pointless and wastes more fuel
