Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. It's the electronic line to your accelerator.

About $340 from Cummins and 20 minutes.

Accellerator Pedal Position Sensor.

$335. or thereabouts from Cummins.

$450. or thereabouts from Dodge.

I got mine new in box from a dealer on ebay for under $300 incl. shipping.

Takes somewhere between 10 minutes and 30 minutes to replace.
It is the apparatus that your throttle cable goes into (the apparatus is actually the housing, the APPS is a very small part on the back of the houseing that you can't see until you actually get it off. The houseing is called Bell Housing and APPS assembly....or somtghing like that. You cannot buy them separately.

I did the little 3 key trick and got the P1693 code also, and went to Autozone and they said that they wouldnt check it if the "Check Engine" light is on...they were pretty rude about it too! So ive been driving all over town looking for someone else that has a code reader, but nobody around here will do it. Theres a Dodge dealer, but i try to avoid them like the plague, any other ideas?

They wouldnt check it if the light was on?

Why the heck else would you have it checked?

Did you mean "off"?

Are there any Checker, Shucks, Kragen around there? (May have the spelling off a bit there).
They will check it also.
There are some readers out there that wont see anything unless there is a problem, as in the CEL is on.

Apps

That is what the shop did to mine yesterday. I left it for them to replace my two month old IP they put on it for free (I thought) and when I went to pick it up today thay hit me for $525.00. The part was about $250.00 and labor and tax made it $525.00. They charged me for two hours labor @ $68.00 an hour. I told them I wanted my old part and they gave it to me and it had six bolt holes and a linkage rod. It probably took them all of five minutes to replace it, oh I forgot, it had a wire to unplug.

Thumbs up how to read trouble codes with ign.

i found an easy way to check for trouble codes on my 2000, using the ign. key. 3 steps. you must cycle the key to on pos.3 times. put key in the ign. and unlock the steering. do not start the truck...... turn key on-off-on-off-on.....leave key in the on pos. and look at the odometer it will display the code .

Key check won't tell you all the codes that are stored in memory, if you have the 1693 code you'll have to get it scanned, to retrieve all stored codes.

From http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler/96-01.shtml

P0302 Misfire Detected, Cylinder No. 2 (that's a gasser code, recheck)
P1689 No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module
(not a good code to have)

Hi phox
Thanks for the quick info,I`ll check the codes again in the morning.
I,ve just had a electronic immobiliser fitted to the truck to keep my insurance premium down,( I saved £300 about 560 dollars). When the truck was in the shop it hopefully threw the 1689 code whilst the immobiliser was being fitted.

Thanks again Yam
