code 1693
I'm getting an intermittant check engine light and code 1693. I searched and seems like it some kind of companion code which people say doesn't hurt anything. Today the tach stopped when the engine light came on and then in about 15 minutes the tach came back but I still have the engine light. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on with my truck. TIA

For some reason, the key on/off trick doesn't always show all the codes.
Best bet would be to get it scanned with a scanner, it should show all the codes that are hidden in there.

I guess it might be my best bet to take it to the dealer for this. Thanks, Phox
Do you think I might have a crank position sensor on the fritz?
I guess I thought the key trick displayed all of the codes..oh well.

You could take to Autozone, or any major auto parts place and they should scan it for free,
then you'd know if it was something you could tackle yourself.
Yes, if the tach is being affected, then it could be the CKP.
I can never remember which the later 24 valves have, either the crank or cam sensor, but one of them was deleted, and the other takes up the slack.

Update
I went to Autozone and they did pull the codes. I have a PO341 so it looks like the cam position sensor is out. I can feel it but no way can I get my big hands to the thing. I wonder how much the dealer gets to do the job.. I try and do most things but I believe that is in too small a place for me to get to.
