Lift pumps usually die without throwing a code.
That code is more likely tied to whatever controls the lift pump,
it's seeing more/less volts/amps than it wants to.
So, perhaps, the lift pump might be bad, or not, maybe.

You need a lift pump. Every time I've seen that code active the pump has been going out. The code sets when the ecm sees a voltage out of range on the ground circuit that terminates at the ECM. The lift pump can fail in two common fashions. Loss of psi/volume which is a mechanical prob that won't have a code, or the electrical part of it (motor) that will show up as an out of range voltage. Could be wiring (or connection at pump), but most of the time the motor in the pump is giving up.

I found a dead lift pump while changing my fuel filter last time. Didn't have the 0230 code until after I replaced the pump... Code went away after about 25 starts.
That thing died on me pretty quick too. I drained a little fuel to start a campfire SAturday night and used it to reprime the system... then found it D.O.A. on Monday night.

I’m afraid that I need more than a lift pump. A few weeks ago I took the truck to the dealer and explained that I had low fuel PSI at times and that I suspected the lift pump. it turns out that DC will not replace it unless the flow is at or below 45% of spec. Mine was at 47%, so no pump. Now I am waiting for the VP44 to go out.
What worries me is now the truck is low on power and will most likely die on the road. But still no code 0216. The only code is 0230 and 1693. Any suggestions?
Oh I forgot 94000 on the truck hope this boils down fast.

Ding-dong the VP 44 is dead. Today I took it into the dealer here in town. Pulled in only running on about 3 cyl. and black smoke everywhere Got to talk to the mechanic. (Should have seen the look on the service reps face while the mechanic and I was talking, completely blank I don’t think he understood three words that we said) He (the mechanic) can not see a reason that DC will not replace both the lift pump and the VP 44.
Will find out tomorrow, dealer will call me at work.

Talked to the dealer and all parts are ordered and should be in before the weeks end. They wanted to sell me a reflash of the ECM / PCM but I did not bite. Told them I was not paying an hrs labor for 5 min work.
