Question Cna you remove oil pan without lifting engine

I need to clean up one cylinder and I need to remove the oil pan to remove the #5 piston & rod. Can this be done without lifting the engine?

Doubt, there was another post this morning about this, you need to lift the motor or pull the trans. Which every is easier I guess, I found lifting the motor easier.

I have replaced to pans, and I don't see how it can be done with out lifting or removing the Trans, You have to get the pan to angle down to pull it past the trans you with out going up you can not get enough angle to get it past the trans. Lifting is no hard if you have an engine hoist.

Man I already have the head off so I could find the problem, Found I had a bad #5 piston so I want to pull it and mic the cylinder to see if I can just install a new piston & rings on that one cylinder. Removing the trans looks like it would be a beast!

the block has to lift up about 5 inches in order to clear everything. I just pulled my block due to bad piston.

I have always pulled the transmission to remove oil pan. I feel it's safer doing that way. You still will need to jack engine up to remove oil pickup tube. While the trans is out I usually replace rear main seal if it show signs of leakage or if it is high mileage truck. Good Luck

Get some 12mm eyebolts

I just went through this, you will not be able to reach much of the #5 cylinder without pulling the engine.

When going back in with the head on, it is very tight make sure to leave the big cast motor mounts off until the engine is stabbed or lift your cab a couple of inches it is a pain

I'm not sure about reaching #5 Cyl. But, I do know that you will have to lift the engine about 5" to clear the crossmember with the pan. I helped a buddy do an oil pan gasket a few weeks back on his 12V with the NV4500. We took out the motor mount bolts. Lifted the motor about 5". We did NOT remove the transmission (remember: the truck is a stick). We DID have to unbolt the oil pick-up and then the pan slid right out. The new pan gasket came with a new gasket for the oil pick-up.
Hope this helps.
