Cleaning MAP and IAT sensors
#4
It is carb cleaner. I used throttle body cleaner since it is supposed to be different in that it does not stip the coatings off of throttle bodies. Figured it would save any coatings on the IAT sensor as well.

I just pulled my IAT this weekend to clean it. After 140k on it it showed no signs of carbon/oil/dirt buildup whatsoever. I was expecting it to be quite dirty after 140k but not the case. However I do not have an exhaust brake.

The IAT on my 5spd '99 was always dirty due to me down-shifting (even before installing the e-brake). I checked the '00 shortly after buying it -- at 114k miles it was suprisingly clean. I doubt the previous owner had ever cleaned it. I'm guessing that the autos don't produce as much (if any) back pressure, which is what causes them to get dirty.

I just pulled my IAT sensor and it was spotless. I went ahead and gave it a cleaning anyways. That's a tough sucker to get to. Now if I could just figure out what size socket I need for the MAP sensor so I can pull it out and clean it.

I need to pull the MAP sensor next but I having a hell of a time getting the connector off the MAP let alone the size of the socket...
BigBlue, When you do get it please let me know what size it is... I really should clean mine badly.. If I cleaned the IAT sensor 4 times now and never pull the MAP sensor... Opps...
Going to be ugly..

Thanks of the info and the socket size... Now I need to go buy a socket that big!
