Checking fuel pressure

I'm looking at a 2000 truck tomorrow , Everyone tells me that I need to check the fuel pressure on it, I have no way of having it looked at by a mechanic, but I due have the ability to check the pressure my self if some one can tell me where to check it at and the size of the fittings. I thought I would pick up an inexpensive autometer gauge and plumb it in to check it. An what tools I will need please. Hope this isn't too much to ask. Thetruck has 250,000 plus and about 130,000 on the engine. It is about 3 hrs from where I live, Thanks for any help. I'll be checking back all day

On the 2000s, there should be a schraeder fitting on the banjo bolt on the VP. Get a line that will fit onto this fitting to and then you can bump the starter, or run the truck. Ideally, you'd want to check it at full throttle under a load, but idle should at least give you an idea. On my stock LP, I was getting 15psi at idle. I hear the new in tank modules run around 10psi idle.

Also, do the key-on-off-on-off-on trick to check the codes in the odometer. The 0216 and 1688 are the codes you should be looking for.

Do you know why the engine was rebuilt/swapped? These engines will outlast the trucks, so be something to be interested in. I guess it could have had a cracked block.

Who cares what's wrong with it! It's only 5K, even it the VP44 and LP are bad it's still a great deal! But if the motor is blown that might be a different story.
Might wanna do a search and make sure it isn't a cracked 53 block.

For 5k grab it. It will sell for 10-15 depending on how nice it is running. Orileys rents scanners around here. Much better than the key on for pulling codes. You can down load the code description & take them with you. I'd probably just drive it, buy if it ran Ok & plan on a couple grand to get it where I want. That price has some room. Ask a bank for loan value if you want to be comfortable. Take cash & offer $500 less for clean title. Check that vin on body matches title.

Well, I passed it up. The guy wanted 5500 I offered him 4800 he went 53 I said 5 and he wouldn't budge. The trans mission hadn't been touched in 280'000 mile when I hit it to shift in to passing gear it missed the shift and redlined , after I let up it then shifted. It was a 53 block, but I couldn't find any crack in the block, brakes were shoot front bumper plastic hanging loose showed code 1693 4 miss matched tires rear wheels were ols rusty chrome and front were AL. He didn't know if the injection pump had ever been chaged, might have when engine was rebuilt, but didn't seem too interested in getting me the repair order , said a friend had done the work for him. dront end rattled everytime it hit a bump, rear glass seal was bad and falling out , He didn't even bother to wash it even tho he had all day waiting for me to get there that afternoon. And the truck looked like the underside hadn't been washed since he bought it. I passed. If anyone else is interested it is located close to Vicinse IN.
