check engine light and tach quit working

Hey guys, been a while since Ive been on here. Anyways, the other night my pickup check engine light came on and the tach quit working. Then, it felt like it was a plugged fuel filter or gelled up, but my fuel pressure was still at 16 psi at idle. Anyone have any ideas on where to start? Could it be my injection pump? I am going to put in a new fuel filter this weekend and try to get a scanner. other than that, any ideas or people with similar issues, thanks for any input.

On that year, crank sensor. Its behind the starter. They can be difficult to get out, there is an o-ring on them and the block will be rusty on the way out and be really a pain.

I had an incident with my 2000. The cam ring that bolts to the crank so the sensor has something to read came apart. Sent pieces into the pan, blew the sensor out of the block. Hope that didn't happen to you.

Sounds like Crank Position Sensor to me, had the same problem with my 99 one weekend. R&R the sensor behind the starter and that should fix your problem. You'll have to remove your starter, which is easy. Then work away on removing the sensor from the block, which is the worst part. Took me a good while to get mine removed without having it fall into the block.

Good Luck!

Hey I just ran into the exact same problem at you. 2000 24v and I just put a new lift pump on there. Was running great then one day I got a check engine light but it went off soon after. A couple days later I'm driving and my tach stops working and the check engine light popped up again so I pulled over and shut the truck off. Went to start up again and it turns but won't fire. I know it's not getting fuel. Im wondering if you figured it out and could shine some light on it for me pretty please!

Thank you
Brian
