I put in mobile 1 synthetic diff lube and a bottle of the friction modifier (dodge dealer told me I needed it) ..........<br><br>my lsd seemd to work great .......leaves 2 black strips on the pavement

The synthetics are undoubtedly to be envied for their greater latitude in heat, as well as better overall lubricity - but if you REALLY want to enjoy the benefits of your LS differential, it IS a "crapshoot" as to whether it will still work properly after switching to synthetic lube.
AND, the proper "test" for LSD operation is NOT to put both wheels on the same type surface to test for traction, but to put them on DIFFERENT surfaces, one slick, the other dry, THEN see if you get the same - or better - traction from the dry side, after all, that's what "limited slip" is all about, providing traction to one wheel even if the other is on a slippery surface... ;D ;D

okay, the other day I had one tire on the gravel shoulder and the other on the pavement (usual parked on the side of the road) ........... took off in 2nd and tromper her down ..........left a big trench in the gravel and a paralell black strip on the pavement .......means it works right <br><br><br>also the truck always wants to go sideways on the slippery clay road into my dad's place after a rain<br><br><br>I thought you had to put in synthetic to keep your warrenty on the diff if you tow things (could have sworn I read that somewere in my owners manual

"I thought you had to put in synthetic to keep your warrenty on the diff if you tow things (could have sworn I read that somewere in my owners manual"<br><br>I suspect it's more along the lines of a "recommendation" than an all-out requirement - after all, DC has no idea what or how much you might tow - or where - or under what conditions, so denying a warranty claim simply because you have a hitch on the truck would be pretty difficult - besides, *MY* truck CAME with a hitch already installed, and the tow/camper package included - so wouldn't that sorta require DC to have already installed the synthetic, since that is apparently the intended function of the truck? ;D ;D

I just changed the rear fluid to Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube at 50k miles.<br>I didn't use any "Friction Modifier" .<br>So far, LS seems to be working OK, and no clunking from the Diff clutches. ;D<br>

What seems to work "ALL THE TIME"? Does anyone pull big loads with the Dino stuff? Do then blends offer a bullet proof alternative?<br>And what about contamination from wearing clutches? Will that not dictate changing at normal intervals anyway & if you do so, the dino stuff may be fine?

Personally, *I* don't think there is ANY "everytime" lube for these differentials - too wide a variation in clutch packs, I continually see/read variations in results of various lubes - I *do* see lots more loss of LS action when going straight to a full synthetic, and suspect there are even more out there with poor or non-operational LS units who merely ASSUME theirs is OK because it "doesn't chatter". Most don't actually test them, others don't know how (some don't CARE!), and few actually know the specs or have the tools to accurately check them for proper opeation - I know *I* sure don't! I have just settled on a 80/140 wt semi-synthetic lube that gives clear evidence of a percentage of lockup that *I* accept, without chatter, and that's it!<br><br>2. As far as I am concerned, if the LS *is* operationg properly, yes, it WILL shed LS clutch particles, and need periodic changing - how often depends on actual use, and how aggressive your specific LS action is... About all you can do if unsure, is develop a way to occasionally check the lube for contamination level - pretty hard without a way to drain off a small sample, but there are aftermarket differential covers that help, and some, like me, have drilled and tapped the stock cover for a removable plug that allows sampling...
