Can I take off stock fuel filter mount?
Hey guys.
I'm trying to track down a slight leak and have been getting frustrated with how full my engine bay is!
My air dog runs straight to my VP and my stock fuel filter is just sitting there lookin stupid.
I know I can just unbolt it cause I did to replace my old stock lift pump when I first bought the truck.
What about the 2 sensors that go into the side of the can though?
Are they even doing anything any more since that filter is totally bi passed?
What have you all done?
TIA, Ian.

I removed it on my old truck. One sensor is for the "water in fuel" light which doesn't matter but will kick on if you wash your engine bay and it gets wet haha. I had the FASS on mine and it used the other plug but if it is totally bipassed by the airdog I would think it would not be an issue.

I figured one was for the water in fuel light.
Whats the other for? My Air Dog has all its own wiring but since I cant see where the sensors on the stock one are coming or going, makes me a little weary to just unplug and unbolt.
Is that what you guys did?

one set of wires is water in fuel light, I put a dab of silicone in the plug making it water tight, light does not come on even after steam cleaning engine. other plug is for the fuel heater, tape that up well as it can lay against the frame and short/melt(personal experience on this)
also you might have to add a couple washers on the two bolts that used to hold the fuel canister, as they might not go tight enough to keep the intake gasket from blowing out

Ooo good call on the washers. Didnt think about the intake gasket.
So basically just unplug the sensors and tape/silicone em up and I can call it good huh?
Just electrical take on the fuel heater plug? Do I have to worry about it heating up and melting the tape at all?

just tape up the end of the fuel heater wire the terminals are just close enough to the end that they can ground out against the frame, they dont heat up unless they short out, I taped mine up then zip tied it to another wiring harness so it was out of the way.

Well that was easy!! Took 10 minutes from popping the hood to shutting it again. Yep, zipped the wires up out of the way as well.
Cant believe how much more I can see on that side is now.
Thanks Nick and all!

My gasket blew even though I replaced the bolts with 2 the same length as the shorter stock bolts. Gasket was old and brittle. I heard a boost leak but had to make a boost boot to find it.
Removing pump does make it easier to access everything on the driver's rear of the engine.
