Building my own air intake

I'm thinking of removing the bulky stock air box and using the exsisting turbo inlet tube and making a custom intake set up with aftermarket high flow filters. My question is I'm thinking of making a Y-pipe so that I can have two filters would this help having an extra filter or would it not make that much difference ?

My filter will probably out in the open unles I can figure out a box for it, and are there any mpg gains to having aftermarket filter set up over the stock flat panel

A lot depends on your right foot, but yes the aftermarket filters will yield a little better economy due to the higher flow and less restriction.

I see what you mean! Actually there is a bracket on that stud supporting a heater hose making it appear loose, I will check this weekend anyway...THANKS, that pic was from 5 years ago!

There is a template on here somewhere that I used to make a heatshield for my BHAF. It works pretty good but you should make a cardboard one to really make it fit better.

One filter is probably enough, you can only suck so much air thru a 4 inch inlet.

Just what I did.......removed the factory stuff, added the K/N to the bellow, then used cardboard to make a template of a heat shield which I eventually fabricated out of 316L.
