blown nv4500
i was runn'n a powersmoke the other week (beat him of course) and tor up my tranny. My question is where who sells rebuilt nv4500 trannys for a resonable price. I was checking on ebay and found the place out in Phoenix that has them for $1,095.
i would go with a nv5600 if i didn't just put a new clutch in. i can deal with the 5 speed anyway.

That $1095 is the cheapest I have ever heard...
What did you do to it, have you thought about just fixing/having yours fixed? Parts are pretty cheap, and they are supposed to be pretty easy to work on, with the right tools. I am planning on doing mine in the spring.

I plan on fixing mine, too (both a spare that I bought, and the one that's in the truck now, both have syncros out on 3rd gear)
The worst part for me is buying the specific tools- a mainshaft holding wrench and 5th gear nut wrench are about $140 combined... there's a few more tools that are good if you're replacing bearings, too...
anyone up for a tool rental pool, setup like the KDP jig, maybe? Or just have a set of tools for the NV4500 that you'd be willing to sell?

i thought about pulling it out and buying the gears and whatnot, but after pricing gears, i had to say i'll get a rebuilt one with an warranty.
As far as what's wrong with it, i can't use third gear, if i feather the cluch forward or back sometimes i won't even move. Oh, and i have a grinding sound in all the gears, with a loud popping sound in third

I picked up a rebuilt nv4500 off ebay several months ago for right around $800 shipped. When I got it the transmission was not rebuilt as the seller said(chunks missing out of one of the syncrows), but he shipped it back and repaired it on his dime. I have not had a chance to put it in yet so I cant say if it was worth it or not yet, but everything looks good. The best part was, there was no core charge. When its all done I will have the nv4500 thats in the truck now for sale. It has a bad 3rd gear syncrow, but its still very drivable.

Consider all the cost
I just put in a rebuilt NV4500 a few weeks back. Considered the E-bay rebuilts until I added in the shipping, the shipping to return the core, and the possibility the core is not accepted because of serious hard part damage.
Went to a local rebuilder in Indianapolis, $1295 for a NV4500 that works better than new.
