Block mount and intank lift pump?
My lift pump just went again, fourth time. I am woundering if It would work to use the in tank retro, with the original block mount pump. I ask this because I have a new block mount pump running now. It would not be too hard for me to install the in tank.
Thanks Bob

In order to install the in-tank pump, you'd need to either drop the tank or raise the pickup bed.
There are several threads about the in-tank pumps.
Most agree the difficulty in possibly having to change a defective in-tank pump would out weigh any advantage they might give.
A block mounted pump can be changed on the side of the road, if necessary.
In in-tank?.....
Then there's the reduced fuel pressure (8-9 psi vs 15-16 psi) that many are reporting.......
If you're trying to use both at the same time, you'd need a pump that would still allow fuel to pass through it if the pump itself fails.

I have a dump on the truck so the in tank would be easy to install.
I never get more than 10psi with the block mounted pumps? This new one from napa is only at 9psi. Maybe just my guage?
I was thinking if the in tank feeds the block pump, they would all live well together. The block pump not pulling so hard and boosting pressure, and the intank, just pushing along.
I may try it, unless I hear different.

I'm thinking the same way. After the in-tank pump was dropping my fuel pressure to zippo, I started to see things a little different. I dumped the banjos and my fuel pressure at the VP became acceptable. The truck seems to idle better (quieter and run better too. Probably my imagination. But the pressure is up and consistant.
I'm going with R&R the fuel lines and a pump on the frame rail up front. Not on the engine and subject to vibration and such(even though I don't believe it matters), the intank pump would be coasting, just keeping the other pump fed.
I'm waiting to see a pic or diagram of the in-tank pump. In case of failure I hope to by-pass it with tubing if it fails. I almost think fuel lines alone might have been the cure all along.

vulcan makes a kit.
I used the parts list on this page http://xj.cdevco.net/auto/fuelsystem/ along with my own flavor of mayhem.
