Black soot in Tailpipe!

I checked my tailpipe by just checking things and notice some soot inside of it.
Is it normal to have a think black oily soot in the pipe. Is that alittle blowby or just raw fuel combination diesel exhaust residue?

I can smear my finger on it and it feels thick somewhat!

Completely normal for pre-2006 trucks anyway. The new ones now have the filters on them and the inside of the tailpipes is suppose to be as clean as the outside for a lot longer.

I thought some oil soot was a sign of blow by.

Also I'me due for a valve adjustment. 105,000 over due! Would this create more soot or black oil residue. I know the valves are off because with the timing box on I notice valve noise sometimes at certain rpms.

I will be adjusting them this weekend it seems.

The poor thing's shot. You should just send it to my house with a signed title so I can dispose of it properly.

On my truck the soot in the exhaust pipe is present but is dry and comes out fairly easily if you hit it with a pressure washer.
