Not showing normal amount of boost when accelerating ---checked everything for tightness seems ok checked impeller on turo nice and clean turns freely no excessive play in shaft. Air filter (scotty) ok

unplugged edge and helped a lot , i think maybe the edge is just exsenchuating
the problem. any ideas

good read to file on turbo's

Could you have blown off or ruptured a boot in the intake piping?

I am going to go out and look again. none of the boots are off or loose and did not see anything ruptured but did not give then a good visual underneath.
this thing was running perfect until it spent the day in the shop with me yesterday installing the air ride seats.
Maybe it's just trying to get even because it still has to feel the bumps

if the turbo was bad wouldn't it show visually ?

If you pull the intake hose and fire it up you should see (and hear) the turbo spinning freely.
Whan I shut mine down at idle, the turbo still spins for approx 20-30 seconds.
If yours is stopping quickly on shutdown, there could be a bearing problem.
Otherwise I suspect a boost leak somewhere.

i pulled it and everything is spinning free---no strange sounds---nice and clean----no hot spots. Can't locate a leak anywhere.

Looks like i may be off to my local cummins dealer Mon morning. going to have a BD converter lock put on to accomadate the jake brake i just put on last week so guess i can kill two birds with one stone

Intercooler?

Hoses can hold and then let go as they expand. I was amazed at how much they blow up under boost. They can leak out under the clamps too.

Did you look at the bottom boot coming on the intercooler. It has a tendance to rub on the fender and the fender will cut a hole in it. You can't realy see it unless you pull the boot off or push it over enough to get a good look at it.

Herb,

Check the hose located on the passenger side intercooler (this would be the hose located on the passenger side bottum of what looks like a radiator, the line comes from the turbo). As 95ram stated this boot sometimes rubs on the inner fender and get a hole in it. Also check all the boots very good and check for tightness, I have seen a clamp fail and look good but not really be tight. I would suspect the boots first, second would be the gaskets under the air horn or intake.....

If I can help out in any way please feel free to phone.

I had a simular problem once. It turned out to be the gasket on the intake plenum cover. 20% of it was blown out. Was the last place I'd ever thought of looking at.
