Black oil visible/turbo and inner cooler hose!!
I was workin on my bro-inlaws truck(00' auto stock except Juice) and we pulled the intake hose off and could see dirty oil covering the silencer ring, so i took that out and could see alot more be hind the silencer ring, so i looked at the boost line and noticed that the inner cooler hose clamp had black oil seeping out of it, so i check the turbine wheel and notice that it has a good bit of play in it, more than it should i think!
Anyone have any advice as to what might the problem be?
P.S he has a home made intake with a new K&N filter but the intake tube dosent have any oil in it, it was bone dry!

I have had the same exact issue a couple of weeks ago. I was told here that it may be a seal on the turbo, but I also read that it can be due to extended idling in the winter. So I cleaned up the black oil residue and put it back together, I will watch it to see that my oil seal on the turbo shaft is not busted. I was told it may be caused by hot shutdowns too, if oil gets cooked onto the shaft.
I'd say, clean it up and watch it. I didn't have oil as far down as the intercooler. If you get more oil soon, looks like a turbo overhaul is in order, I was told the overhaul kit is about $100.

Oil "behind the silencer ring" tells me that the oil is not coming from the turbo. It is most likely the K&N filter having its grease sucked out of it. K&N filters are notorious for coating MAF sensors in gas engines, I imagine this is worse with with a diesel (which pulls in way more air than a gasser). This is especially true if the owner over oiled the filter.

Was the oil on the Intercooler Boot on the outside of the boot, or inside? I have oil on the outside of the boot going into the intercooler, and the boot attaching the down tube of the turbo to the pipe running into the boot off the intercooler...so maybe I should take them off and see what's up?
