I've had this problem, I put in Lube Guard, it worked great. it was -8 here the other morning and havn't had any whining........from the PS pump that is.

Lube guard has several products for transmissions, oil, and P/S. I forgot what color the bottle was, each is color code. I had to ask for it at NAPA, they had it in back.
Is Lube Guard also available at Pep Boys, Advanced Auto Parts, or AutoZone...I think those are the only 3 close to me...

So there is just one Lube Guard product specificly for the PS correct? If so how many ounces to puur into the PS reservoir? Got a p/n for the stuff or any way to identify the correct product...last time I tried calling or checking with a service rep at one of those places the dude was either high or just know what he was doing...

Sunir,

Just ask for a synthetic PS/ATF fluid. I think Lube Guard is just a branding, nothing special compared to any other synthetic fluid.

I thought Lube Guard was an PS fluid additive that I could add to my fluid in the reservoir...? A guy on a post said he added a few ounces and that was it...problem solved...

can someone clarify this lube guard product and it's appropriate usage

Well, both I guess.

Depends on what lube guard product they're referring to. The fluid, or the treatment? Regardless, if the fluid is "bad" no treatment will help it, and if it does it's only a band-aid.

Unless of course you have already flushed the whole system, refilled with synthetic and the whine was still there when the temp is below 0* F. Then you add a few ounces of the Lube Guard additive and it goes away. Then again maybe it was just luck

Scott, I was told by the Royal Purple Tech Rep to use Max EZ which is their PS fluid I guess...I don't know how much though. I picked up some lubegard (4 0z) of PS additive, but then the weather was warmer so I didn't put it in yet. I was advised to siphen 4 oz of PS fluid and put in the lubegard in its place...I just got fresh PS fluid put in when I had my steering gearbox swapped out.
