Best Fuel Additive

Lost my third VP44 after only 18,000 miles, this time I was told that it was a lubrication Issue. My first lasted 140,000 and the LP took it out, the second had a bad FPCM and died 2,000 miles after install at 142,000. The third made it to 160,000. I walked and to make matters worse I got towed by a FORD, I have added Lucas to every other tank without fail. Now I am told every tank must be treated to provide proper pump lubrication, due to low sulfer and lack of lubrication. I cannot figure out if this is bad luck or a overmaintaned truck. When it died I was looking at the fuel pressure guage sitting on 14PSI. The pump inside the VP44 siezed up and snapped the key. So what is the best additive, how much, how often? Any input would be appreciated.

I have used Power Service since 1994 and I only became a dealer a little over 1 year ago. Its all I use. I run the white bottle (Diesel Fuel Supplement) in the winter and the silver bottle (Diesel Kleen) in the warmer months. I have not had a gel, algae, or water problem ever. Gelled up a '94 powerstroke once because I got summer-grade fuel in a cold snap in October and did not all Power Service. Stupid.

I use the Power Service as well. It would be great if we had actual scientific comparisons of all these products to see what is best and if they actually do the job they claim on the bottle.

Its an opinion thing or what you are used to using. I have to say Lucas additive hands down has been the best for me between Power Service and Lucas. The Lucas is so slick and thick, wow that sounds good, and is so lubricating it is rediculous. Your MPG increase will shock you and how easy the truck starts and runs will suprise you as well. Been using it for 2 years, and I can hear other Cummins engines over mine becuase the Lucas has actually lubricated the injectors so well and the injection pump and what not that it is a little quieter than most. I swear by the stuff and it is quite affordable also. I buy it from www.Interstateturbro.com has a case of four gallons for 58 bucks and that includes shipping. Last time I bought at Flying J, a gallon was 23.99, wow what a comparison huh. Anyways buy a 32oz bottle and try it and see what it does for you. Good Luck. Aaron

Stanadyne Performance Formula is what I use. I buy it in 5 gallon cans at a local diesel shop.

http://www.stanadyne.com/new/ppt/showfile.asp?id=1295 for additive comparisons

Use a biodiesel blend if it's increased pump life and lubricity you're after.
A 2% blend of BD and #2 will increase lubricity by 60%.
You're lucky, in Texas you can buy it from Willie
I use Power Service only in the winter for anti-gel.

Has anyone used Fleet Tech Asphaltene? I figured if Fleetguard made it, it had to be good.

You can never go wrong wtih Stanadyne Performance Formula, I have recently started using Delphi - Diesel Additive Plus and have been happy with the results. Plus it treats more gallons for the dollar then Stanadyne. I think this same additive is sold under some other names like "RBP - Rolling Big Power" or something. Good stuff though.

I've used power service since the beginning. I put a small amount in with every fill up and that's from the 1/2 tank mark.
