Best ECM replacement

I can't find anything else wrong so I am about rdy to get an ECM. I found some rebuilt ones online that are supposed to be programmed to your VIN. There is quite a price spread. Is this a case of you get what you pay for? They are from about $500 to over $1000.

Do you have a prefered source?

I here you im in the same boat. I just want to make sure if I take the ECM plunge that I make **** sure I correct the reason why it happened in first place. Like edge box has to be evaluated I have heard a lot of negative feedback on using a performance box but having a cummins and cant make it powerful kinda sucks. 12 valves never were this much trouble I see why I was reluctant to go 24v way. I did find one online though amazon I think something like automated electronic parts I cant remember but I here from them tomorrow and Ill let you know what I find out

well place with ECM's is Auto Module and they quoted $395 to send mine they fix it and send it back or $495 for a remanufactured one. But have you check your MAP sensor? check out genosgarage.com they have the sensor and required wiring harness and they can next day air it to you for less than half what dealer wants for the exact same part. I just ordered them and get them tomorrow and am going to try that one last shot before ECM or having a shop diagnose it. Good Luck

I have been tied up so I haven't got to mine yet. I know things fail but it just came out of nowhere.

I am surprised nobody has commented on who they got their ECM from. Some of the online reviews for some of the internet rebuilders is questionable.

I used auto computer exchange. first one didnt work well at all, they did promptly send me another one that did work. if they rebuilt it you sure couldnt tell by looking at it. However it did and still is working. iirc it was 595 for the ecm but that was several years ago.
Have heard quite a few complaints about them on various ctd sites however also some good.

I was having almost identical problems as Jaconst. I ended up getting an ecm thru cummins and it solved all my problems. $1150 for the ecm and $150 for programing. I was a little skeptical of all the repair places on line after reading some of the problems people had with them. Some had good luck, but seems more had problems.

Ive heard more bad about on line repair for the ecm's, but one piece of advice, dont sent your ecm for repair without having one already working in the truck. Heard of some sending for repair and never getting them back, so now you are also out a core.

Well, after all the horror stories I got one from the Dodge dealer. It runs ok now. No frustration with somebody online this way.

Thanks for all the info.
