belt tensioner pulley
is this a common place of failure on these trucks.
my tensioner seems to jumping around a bit and seems to have a slight bearing knock to it. (word of advice careful when using a stethascope that engine is freaking loud!!!)
anyways does the tensioner pulley come as a seperate piece? cost?

Pully is avaliable as individual part. However, suggest purchase entire tesnioner assy. They wear where they pivot and allow miss alignment of belt and failure. Pulley $20 or so at Auto Zone, Advance, ect. Dayton brand tensioner about 65 from Auto Zone, 69 from advance, 150 from others. Belt for 18 at Auto Zone. Supposedlly higher quality belt for up to 70 at other places. Take your pick. JMO

With that "loud" engine it can be hard to tell for sure where the sound is comming from. The 'fan support hub' bearing can cause the same sound. The bearing on mine went bad and it destroyed the the fan, fan-clutch, and the radiator! Expensive!! (also needed new fan bearing)
Looking back I rember hearing a strange "bad bearing" kinda sound near the front of the engine. Wish I'd have found what was causing the sound sooner!

now my question is. i noticed on the factory pulley the belt runs on the flat side.
the new pulley i got is ribbed. does that make a difference or did they give me the wrong one?

You need a "back idler" pulley the one you got is just an "idler" pulley. I hear you about the parts source and Canadian Tire prices but we don't have many options.

The tensioner normally jumps around some with engine running. Pulleys are not perfectlly round so you get some pulsating of tensioner. Release tension on belt and turn pulley by hand. You can generally feel a bad bearing.
Yes, This tensioner must be flat as back(non grooved) side of belt rides against it. Remember I suggested replace the assy. as they are a wear item.

A back idler means the "back" of the belt rides on the pulley and not the inside. As for Non AC trucks ALL the pulleys are the same except the AC of course has a compressor, the difference is you just route the belt differently.
