Axle shaft and U-joint broke in back country

Axle shaft and U-joint broke in back country
Went off-road in Colorado and broke my front U-joint and driver's side axle shaft.
Bummer of a trip to Colorado but met some good people back in the middle of no where that helped out with the situation.
Cost me @ $800 to fix the truck and @ $300 for the tow. What fond memories...*G* I'll be sure to post some pics later.

Man, you must have been gettin on it pretty hard to break a u-joint, or was it bad. I would like to seen those pictures. At least you found some people to help. dave

So you can see that it was total destruction of the driver side axle. I'm just glad I was able to limp out of the middle of no where. Good memories...

By the looks of things the U joint started this whole chain of events.
Was it a stock U joint or was it an aftermarket jobby.
Pretty wild in any event.

Makes me VERY, VERY happy I replaced my u-joints when I did
If you are really gettin on it to snap that joint, maybe it is time for some chryoed u joints & axles!!!
What were you doing when it broke? That must have taken some force if it was in good shape!

With 300+RWHP, and 295 tires. (I wonder what gears) He is able to put alot of HP down, so rock crawling, or the right mud hole (maybe even a rock getting in thw u-joint) would have caused disaster.
I know alot if guys, including myself running more HP thatn that, but most of teh higher HP guys (sled pullers aside) don't shock load the drivetrain like you can when offroading.

Merrick makes sense concerning the instantaneous stress. I was spinning my tires @ 2000 RPM and tires finally hit a little traction and snapped the u-joint then the shaft. All of that stuff was OEM.
Hard way to learn not to off-road the diesel with that much TQ. Gasser's are good for something, next year it will be a Jeep not the CTD.
Makes me wonder about the Jeep Rescue with it's output, hope they have a bullet proof drivetrain.
