Average and safe operating temps?!

I want to know what the average 98 24v operating temp is. Mine used to be around 160-170 but after replacing the fan clutch and a leaky radiator it stays up around 190. It never used to get that high unless i was really pushing it offroad or something and even then came right back down afterward. I'm wondering if the thermostat might have been stuck before and flushing it knocked it loose.

190 is a desirable temp. At 170 the engine is not purging (boiling off) water.

sounds like you fixed your problems, 160-170 is to cool for normal operation temp.

AND, it's good to check radiator temp with something besides stock gauge. Meat thermometer works well. (Make sure it doesn't drop down into the radiator.) Also, while your truck is operating as it should...make a sketch of the gauges so you document what normal is.

190 is no problem at all. like stated before its better than 160-170. if you do replace your thermostat be sure to run a cummins thermostat. The aftermarket cheap ones are junk!!
