auto trans. malfunction
I have a 2001 cummins 4x4 with auto. transmission. About a year ago the trans. stopped downshifting. Unless I manually pull the shifter down to low 1 (after everytime I stop) the truck starts off in 2nd or 3rd gear. Fluid level is fine and fluid is not burnt. I thought the trans. would give out by now but it has not. Has anyone experienced this problem? HELP!!!

Governor pressure solenoid stuck open, not allowing downshift. Or you have a electrical fault code. And driving around for a year trying to run up expense from 2-300 dollars to 2-3000 dollars. JMHO

Cycle the key on/off/on/off/on and they should appear in the odometer window. Write them all down and get back to us.

O.K. I ran the codes as per j-fox and (P doNE) came up in the odometer window. BTW I should have said I just bought the truck 2 months ago. I know the guy that has owned this truck for the last 4 years. He told me that the trans. had been "acting up" for about a year. He had bought a new truck and this one has pretty much just sat in his garage for the last 7 or 8 months. He would drive it about one day every two or three weeks.

My 98.5 was doing the same thing, I replaced all 3 trans. sensors/selenoids, still the same .My code was P0753 which is an electical short (probably). I replaced the relay under the hood on the left fender and the codes cleared themselves, so far everything is OK....

Auto trans. problem
Hi. Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar problem with my 2000 4x4 automatic. It would not downshift, but it started fine in first then would shift to 3rd if I managed to reach 20 mph by 2000 rpm and backed off the gas. It seemed to work fine from there, but would not downshift. No burnt fluid. Changed all the electronics, nothing helped. Finally took it to a shop where they found one of the bands (in my case, the 2nd gear band) was broken. Had to rebuild the trans to fix the problem.

I also have a 2001 dodge 2500 47re tranny. won't down shift. took it to a local guy and he said the only code i had was a p 1693. I found out that was from a year ago when i had my injector pump changed. anyone know where is a good place to get the gov. switch?

Dealer has them avaliable, Most tranny parts stores will have them, check out Geno's. Or comes on a upgraded valve body. If contemplating engine upgrades it would be a good investemt.
